Jane's Story

Jane is 36 years old, married, and a mother of 2 children, both of whom attend school. She lives in Nakuru East, Kenya.

Jane joined Hand in Hand Eastern Africa in January 2014 to receive training in enterprise development and financial management.

Jane operates a posho mill and sells maize flour. She wanted a loan to purchase more maize for milling, to increase her income and pay school fees for her children.

Ayoko's Story

Ayoko is a 34 year old married woman. She lives in Togo approximately 13 kilometres east of Lomé, in the Baguida neighbourhood and has four dependent children.

Ayoko is an itinerant vendor of wine. She gets her stock twice a month at the market. Ayoko was requesting a micro loan to buy additional cartons of wine to expand her stock.

Ayoko is hoping to make her business more profitable and have more earnings in order to enjoy financial empowerment and invest in her children's education.

Rajab's Story

Rajab is a married man with one child, and describes himself to be a very optimistic person. 

Rajab operates a retail business in Mombasa, Kenya, where he sells sugar, soap, bread, flour and other items. He has been involved in this business for 6 years. His business is located in a good area and his primary customers are locals. 

Rajab describes his biggest business challenge to be inadequate working capital. He wanted a loan to buy more stock of bread, flour ,soap and other items. His business goal is to have a wholesale business within 5 years and provide a better life for his family.

Itambé Group's Story

Members of this group: Alcides, Fabiana, Placido, Simone, and Vitor.

The Itambé group are friends who met in the same workplace. They all live and work in the Santo André region in São Paulo, Brazil. Fabiana sells snacks, Plácido sells pastries, snacks and juices, Simone sells snacks, and Vitor sells snacks and juices.

Alcides is the leader of the group. He is married and has three children. Alcides has a small store where he sells purses, and has worked for over 30 years with these products. He began this work selling door-to-door, and today he has a small business. He wanted a loan for the purchase of clothing, purses, wallets, and belts to expand his shops inventory.

The extra income will allow him to buy more merchandise. Alcides is a person dedicated to his family and in his spare time he volunteers for his local church. His dream is to open another store and to take a trip with his family.

Now thanks to your generous donations the Itambé group have received the finances to help Alcides dreams become reality.

Blanca Isabel's Story

Blanca is a divorcee and currently lives with her two children.

Her sole source of income is growing corn. The harvest provides her enough food to feed her family, and an income to cover other family necessities. She started this business about 10 years ago with her own funds. She works every day from 6 in the morning until 12 in the afternoon.

She wanted to get the finances to have everything ready for the planting season. She plans to buy improved seed and agricultural inputs to weed and prepare the land for planting corn. Part of the money is to pay for labourers to help carry out the farm tasks.

She hopes to get an abundant harvest and grow as a micro-entrepreneur so she can give her children a better future. Thanks to your generous donations Blanca has received the fiances she need to succeed in accomplishing her dream. 

Higidio's Story

Higidio is a very hardworking person. He is 52 years old, single, and has three children.
He works selling fruit wholesale out of his small establishment in the town of Calca, Peru. He buys  his fruit from suppliers from Quillabamba and Urubamba Valley.
He was asking for a loan to buy oranges, bananas, papayas, cherry tomatoes, and mangoes to increase his shops inventory and expand his business. Higidio is hoping to grow as a entrepreneur and be able to give a better quality of life to his children. Thanks to your generous donations Higidio has received the finances he needs.

Akossiwa's Story

Akossiwa is a 28-year-old married woman from the suburbs of Lomé, the capital of Togo. She lives in the Baguida neighbourhood and supports two children. 

Akossiwa sells traditional pagne cloth and shoes in front of her house. She resupplies twice a month in the market. 

Akossiwa was asking for a micro loan to buy pagne cloth and shoes. She is planning to make her business profitable and will use the profits to meet the daily needs of her family and get out of her vulnerable situation.
